A leather back can have plastic or rubber edges. Compare the parts your hand touches as well as the finish you see.
One case family, two leather choices
Nomad's Modern Leather Case for iPhone 17 Pro provides a useful example because its leather options sit within the same case family. The product page describes a leather back, polycarbonate frame, microfiber lining and TPU bumper, with MagSafe compatibility. That construction matters if you expect leather around the entire edge.

Check the edge and camera controls before the color
Put four details on your shortlist: the material around the side buttons, the surface around the charging opening, the camera-control treatment and the height of the assembled wallet or grip. Confirm these for the exact phone variant. A different generation in the same product family can use a cutout where another has a covered control.
For a jacket pocket, put the complete setup into the pocket and button the jacket. Sit down, take the phone out and open the camera. If a wallet or folio makes that sequence awkward, try a plain shell with cards stored separately. Empty-case dimensions do not describe a loaded wallet case.
Choose a maintenance routine before a finish
Nomad's product page directs owners to its leather-care instructions and recommends a leather conditioner. Follow the instructions for your exact material and check any color-change warning before applying a product across the back.
Care advice is not interchangeable across brands. For example, Apple's guidance for its own leather cases warns that cleaning can affect color and that water, oil, makeup and dyed fabrics can stain the leather. Treat that as a reason to locate the relevant maker's instructions, rather than a universal cleaning recipe.
Keep a useful wear record
If appearance matters to you, photograph the empty case in daylight when it arrives. Use the same angle after two weeks and note where it was carried, whether a wallet was attached and how it was cleaned. Separate color darkening from a seam lifting or a corner separating. The first can be expected wear; the second deserves a support inquiry with clear photographs.
This record is more useful than a claim that every leather case becomes “better with age.” It lets you decide whether this particular finish suits your routine. Keep order details and care instructions together so the maker can assess a problem.
Match the outfit without buying another set
