Research and product comparisons
Our guides use manufacturer documentation, standards bodies, relevant public authorities and attributed third-party tests. Named comparisons identify the exact product or model, link sources and date time-sensitive observations. We distinguish source claims, reported measurements and editorial judgments.
Specifications can narrow a shortlist; they cannot establish grip, comfort, durability or drop protection in daily use. We have not physically tested the products in the current guides. A historical price or listing is not a promise of current stock, seller or price.
How we make a conditional recommendation
A recommendation connects a documented feature to a stated need: an exact phone fit, a listed magnetic ring, a port cover, a material preference or a required charging connection. We lead with who should choose the option, when another feature suits the reader better and what to check before ordering. A short method note appears once in the sources section; important fit, charging or claim-specific limits stay beside the decision they affect. Smaller thickness claims alone do not establish weaker cushioning or better fitted pocket comfort.
What qualifies for a numerical comparison
When thickness, weight, power or capacity is the comparison's main question, we select exact variants with published figures on a comparable basis or documented, attributed measurements. For cases, the phone model and measurement location matter: wall thickness, back-panel thickness and maximum fitted depth stay separate. If the key metric or method is missing, the product can illustrate a feature choice but cannot take a place in a numerical ranking. Existing historical tables retain missing values as “Not published” rather than estimates.
Third-party tests and videos
When we use a creator's test, we identify the creator, primary video or report, publication date, exact product and device variant, and relevant timestamp or report section. We state which evidence we reviewed: footage, an attributed transcript or the creator's companion report. A search result, title or video description can identify a lead; it cannot verify a test outcome.
Reported results retain their method and scope: the accessory used, measurement point, load, surface, duration or other conditions that matter to the claim. A creator's handling impression stays an impression; a measurement needs an identifiable method. If the tested variant or method is unclear, we keep the result unverified rather than applying it to a different model. Conflicting manufacturer and creator statements are presented separately with their dates and limits. Third-party testing never becomes “we tested” or a site-owned measurement.
What a hands-on test would include
When we publish hands-on findings, the article will identify the device and accessory variant, the equipment and method, the time or conditions involved, and the actual observations. Measurements and photographs from that work will be labeled. We will identify how the sample was obtained and separate immediate fit checks from wear observed over a stated period. A manufacturer's test claim will remain attributed to the manufacturer. Testing one product will change the evidence label only on pages supported by that work; it will not turn the remaining research guides into hands-on reviews.
Checklists and tools
Our selection worksheets help readers check their own equipment. The USB-C setup checker uses the answers entered on the page to highlight missing specifications; it does not identify connected hardware, verify compatibility, certify products or measure speed. No answers are sent by the checker or saved after leaving the page.
Images
Article photographs are licensed from the photographers linked in their captions. Some receive AI edits to tone, framing or background; each caption describes those edits. These are editorial examples, not our test photographs or evidence of product performance. A pictured accessory may differ from the models discussed in the article. Product identity comes from the model name and linked source. Diagrams are labeled separately; original test photographs, when available, will be identified as such.
Editorial independence

Updates and corrections
We preserve the original publication date and change the update date when an article receives a material revision. We review a guide when a phone generation or product variant changes, linked documentation disappears, a compatibility statement conflicts with a newer source, or a seasonal use or travel rule changes. A correction or new test result also triggers review.
Prices remain snapshots with their observation dates. A new price requires a new check of the exact variant, seller and offer; an editorial rewrite alone does not make an old price current. Dated specifications stay visibly dated until rechecked, and an update date describes the revision rather than certifying that every offer was refreshed.
